چکیده مقاله:

Ruminal bacteria and protozoa provide excellent organic phosphorus (P) sources for the host animal. This experiment was conducted to compare the bioavailability of bacterial and protozoal P in comparison with that of dicalcium phosphate (DCP) as a reference phosphorus source. Bacteria and protozoa were isolated from the rumen contents of dairy cows and the chick-model was used to determine the phosphorus bioavailability. Fifteen day-old chicks were used in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments consisting of a control diet (without P, as a basal diet), bacterial P+basal diet, protozoalP+basal diet, and DCP+basal diet. Phosphorus balance was selected as the response criterion for phosphorus bioavailability assessment, using multiple linear regressions. The results showed a higher phosphorus bioavailability of protozoal P and DCP compared with bacterial P (P

Relation of rumen ATP concentration to bacterial and protozoal numbers.

Cultures of Streptococcus bovis and mixed populations of rumen bacteria were used to investigate the concentration of ATP and rumen bacterial numbers at various stages of growth. ATP, extracted with Tris buffer, was analyzed using the firefly luciferin-luciferase bioluminescent reaction. ATP concentrations of S. bovis and mixed cultures of rumen bacteria significantly correlated with live cell ...

Rumen Bacterial and Protozoal Responses to Insecticide Substrates.

Insecticides containing organophosphate, chlorinated hydrocarbon, and carbamate were tested with bovine ruminal ingesta fractions. Rumen bacteria exposed to insecticide levels of 0 to 500 ppm in rumen fluid for 4 hr were inoculated into rumen fluid-starch feed extract medium. No apparent significant bacterial count inhibitions were noted. Also, when insecticides were used as carbon sources at c...

Bacterial protein degradation by different rumen protozoal groups.

Bacterial predation by protozoa has the most deleterious effect on the efficiency of N use within the rumen, but differences in activity among protozoal groups are not completely understood. Two in vitro experiments were conducted to identify the protozoal groups more closely related with rumen N metabolism. Rumen protozoa were harvested from cattle and 7 protozoal fractions were generated imme...
